Do you think that social media has the potential to bring about real social change?

Hell yea, we can accredit our common knowledge and global awareness entirely to the social media. Before we had this great interconnected web of shared information, no one really knew as much about what was going on around the world, nor did they care. Our age is exposed to everything that is happening around the globe, and we already choose to get involved with social change. The social media has been a tool for bringing about social change from the beginning, and independent from us meddling North Americans, places around the world have already been using the social media for protest and reform.

quantity, not quality

waddup.
you wanna know if social media has decreased the quality of information? i say no, but it has certainly increased the amount low-quality information we're exposed too.

Before social networking you could still find low quality information.. it's not as if free speech was a result of myspace, however in this day and age, we're absorbed so deeply into our social media that it serves as the most efficient way to showcase work and entice readers with minimal effort. That being said, most of us would refer to an easily accessible website over sifting through a scientific journal due to the vast and varying amount of information we have at our disposal, regardless of the quality. We're satisfied with non-credible information due to the ease of access, nor are we often looking for anything worth substantial credibility. (ie jersey shore, bowman, media take-out..)

To bring things back to a point, I can say the social media has increased the amount of garbage information we have access too, however as a society we're either looking for that garbage, or we just search a little harder for something with a little more credibility.

What is your perception of social media, do you think it is a fad or the biggest shift since the Industrial Revolution?

Ive come to understand social media as a landmark for this new era of humanitarianism and high-quality life, because after I put thought into the topic i came to appreciate the dynamics of what the media is, and what it can represent. The idea of a balanced nation where the masses are wealthy and content is brand new to human development, and from a humanitarian perspective, this counts for alot of milestones..

Social media, especially in today's culture, is a clear representation of our contentment and surplus wealth that plays this crucial roll in our quality of life. The industrial revolution served as a stepping stone for this global shift, but the emergence of social media is fortified proof that humankind continues to exceed boundaries and push beyond what those before us ever believed possible.
