quantity, not quality

waddup.
you wanna know if social media has decreased the quality of information? i say no, but it has certainly increased the amount low-quality information we're exposed too.

Before social networking you could still find low quality information.. it's not as if free speech was a result of myspace, however in this day and age, we're absorbed so deeply into our social media that it serves as the most efficient way to showcase work and entice readers with minimal effort. That being said, most of us would refer to an easily accessible website over sifting through a scientific journal due to the vast and varying amount of information we have at our disposal, regardless of the quality. We're satisfied with non-credible information due to the ease of access, nor are we often looking for anything worth substantial credibility. (ie jersey shore, bowman, media take-out..)

To bring things back to a point, I can say the social media has increased the amount of garbage information we have access too, however as a society we're either looking for that garbage, or we just search a little harder for something with a little more credibility.
